TASEK GELUGOR, June 26 (Bernama) -- The corporate sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been urged to collaborate with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) to strengthen rehabilitation programmes for clients at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN).
AADK director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said drug abuse is a global issue that requires the support of the entire community and should not be left solely to the agency or the government to address.
He said support from external parties is crucial, particularly in providing guidance, motivation and opportunities for clients to rebuild their lives after leaving the rehabilitation centre, thereby helping to prevent them from relapsing into drug abuse.
“PUSPEN already has its own rehabilitation modules, but what is most important is what happens after clients leave the centre, because the outside world is very different. That is why we encourage external parties, whether corporate organisations or other agencies, to work with us,” he told reporters after the meet-and-greet session and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme organised by the Skyhawk Motorcycle Club of Malaysia in collaboration with PUSPEN Kampung Selamat here today.
Ruslin said the inaugural programme with the motorcycle club was among the best examples of initiatives that provide PUSPEN clients with opportunities to interact with people from diverse professional backgrounds, including doctors, lawyers and corporate executives.
Meanwhile, Skyhawk Motorcycle Club of Malaysia founder Datuk Mohamad Efendi Omar said the programme was not merely about sharing a common interest in motorcycling, but also about providing club members with an opportunity to contribute more meaningfully to society.
He said the initiative also demonstrated the important role of NGOs in establishing a more structured support system to help former PUSPEN clients rebuild their lives.
“Our collaboration with AADK will continue, and we will develop the best strategies to ensure that this programme goes beyond motivation by exploring ways to create employment opportunities so that when they leave the rehabilitation centre, they can secure better jobs,” he said.
