TERENGGANU CYCLING SQUAD AIMS TO DELIVER SEVEN GOLD IN SARAWAK SUKMA

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu cycling squad aspires to contribute seven gold medals at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak which will take place from August 17 to 24.

Team Manager Ahmad Azizi Zulkifli said the Terengganu team under the guidance of head coach Syed Mohd Husaini Syed Mazlan will participate in all 15 events contested at the country's biggest bi-annual sports championship.

He said among the events targeted for gold medals include the men's Individual road race; men's team road race; men citrium; men's bmx; men's downhill.

"For SUKMA this time, we are fielding a total of 22 riders with 40 per cent new faces.

"Besides the gold target, we also hope to collect silver and bronze medals from other events to ensure that Terengganu can achieve the SUKMA championship mission this time," he said when contacted by Bernama.   

Meanwhile, Ahmad Azizi said all the athletes were undergoing final phase training based in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

According to him, with less than a month to competition, preparations for the final phase focus more on high-intensity training and are specific to each athlete.

"We expect fierce challenge from Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak and the host, Sarawak who will definitely want to dominate all sporting events.

"However, we are confident that with the spirit of the athletes and meticulous preparation, the cycling squad is on the right track to win the medals targeted for our beloved state," he said.
