KOTA KINABALU, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Sabah is prepared to host a national-level handball tournament to boost the sport's profile in the state, said Sabah Handball Association (SABHA) president, Datuk Awang Aslee Lakat.
He said that the enthusiastic response to the Sabah Closed Handball Championship held here today proves that the sport holds a special place among players and sports fans in the state.
“If SABHA is given the opportunity to organise a national-level tournament, we are certainly ready to host it. Sabah has sufficient facilities for such an event,” he said during the Sabah Closed Handball Championship at Tun Adnan Sports Complex here today.
A total of 44 teams are participating in the four-day championship, which began today. The event was opened by Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said Keruak and attended by Malaysian Handball Federation (MAHF) president, Datuk Pandak Ahmad.
Awang Aslee, who is also MAHF vice president, said that this championship will serve as a platform to select skilled players to represent Sabah at the National Handball Championship, which will be held in Kedah this December.
