Themed “Creative and Sustainable ASEAN”, the exhibition which is being held from July 9 to 17, aims to promote intellectual properties and creative industries from ASEAN member countries.

About 1,000 delegates of the WIPO Assembly visited the event.

Malaysia's participation in the exhibition is spearheaded by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) and the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva.

Additionally, products that have received Geographical Indication recognition, such as Bario rice, Sarawak pepper, Sarawak layer cake, Melaka dodol, and Terengganu songket, were also exhibited.

Ruzzgahara, a company representing the Malaysian Craft Association, also participated in the exhibition to aid in promoting Malaysian batik and crafts.

The highlight of the exhibition was the reception hosted by ASEAN member countries, where Malaysia showcased traditional Malay dances such as Zapin and Joget.

As a member country, Malaysia and WIPO have enjoyed a close relationship and cooperation since 1989.

"Besides benefiting from agreements administered by WIPO, Malaysia also collaborates with the organisation in various aspects of national intellectual property ecosystem development and advancement, particularly through capacity-building programmes and technical assistance," the statement said.

It added that the Permanent Mission of Malaysia in Geneva plays a crucial role in ensuring Malaysia's engagement in various WIPO agendas and initiatives at the international level, in line with the country's commitment to continually develop intellectual property potential as a catalyst and key engine to national growth.
