EGYPT’S AMBASSADOR TO MALAYSIA HOSTS NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Egypt Ambassador to Malaysia, Ragai Tawfik Said Nasr, on Monday hosted a reception on the occasion of the Arab country’s National Day celebration.

The event was in conjunction with the 72nd anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution in July 1952.

The National Day celebration was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang,  Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

The guest of honour was Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

More than 300 guests, among them government officials, Egptian citizens in Malaysia, foreign diplomats, and those from the business community attended the celebration at a hotel here.

In his speech, Nasr said that the revolution in 1952 was an important landmark in the history of the Middle East and Africa.

“Dear friends of Egypt, thank you very much for honouring us with your presence tonight on this important occasion,” he said.

The July 23 Revolution led by Gamal Abdel Nasser resulted in the end of the monarchy rule and the ushering in of the modern Arab Republic of Egypt.
