JAKARTA, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- Rescuers in Indonesia have located the wreckage of a helicopter that went missing on Monday in South Kalimantan. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) confirmed that all eight people on board were killed.

The wreckage was found on Wednesday near Mandin Damar Waterfall in a remote, hilly forest. The fuselage was ablaze and emitting smoke, while the tail section was discovered detached but largely intact.

“At 2.45 pm local time, rescuers found one victim roughly 100 metres from the crash site,” Basarnas operations director Yudhi Bramantyo said in a statement.

All victims, including three foreign passengers from the United States, India and Brazil, were taken to Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Banjarmasin for identification.

The Airbus MBB BK117-D3, operated by PT Eastindo Air, took off from Kota Baru Airport at 8.46 am local time bound for Palangkaraya, but lost contact eight minutes after departure.

Search efforts were hampered by rugged terrain and thick forest cover before the wreckage was spotted. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash, he added.
