KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) believes that the United Nations’ (UN) Uniting for Peace mechanism could serve as a means to end Israel’s brutality in Gaza.
Its president, Muhammad Azmi Abdul Hamid, said that since the genocide began two years ago, over 80 critical infrastructures have been destroyed and thousands of lives lost, yet all attempts at ceasefire talks have collapsed as Israel remains protected by major powers, particularly the United States.
“If we can secure overwhelming support at the UN General Assembly, a decision can be made to send protection forces. This is the only ‘language’ Israel understands, as diplomacy and negotiations are no longer effective,” he said on Bernama TV’s Malaysia Petang Ini programme today.
He also stressed that Israel must face full sanctions, including the suspension of diplomatic relations by Islamic countries.
“We cannot rely solely on statements of condemnation. There must be concrete action at the international level and the people must continue to press for it,” he said.
Muhammad Azmi said Malaysia is now seen as one of the most vocal Islamic countries in raising the Palestinian issue on the international stage.
“The Malaysian Prime Minister’s voice at international platforms is often recognised as principled and morally grounded. Other nations are looking to Malaysia to take the lead in this struggle,” he said.
He also emphasised the role of the media and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in countering pro-Israel propaganda globally, while urging Malaysians to persist in showing solidarity with Palestine.
