ISTANBUL, April 3 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- US President Donald Trump said Thursday after Iran's highest bridge was attacked that more strikes are coming, urging Tehran to reach a deal before it is "too late."
"The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again. Much more to follow!" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
"It is time for Iran to make a deal before it is too late, and there is nothing left of what still could become a great country," he added.
According to Anadolu Ajansi, Trump has repeatedly urged Iran to negotiate, most recently claiming that Tehran's new leadership requested a ceasefire, a claim Iranian officials denied.
Separately, speaking to Time magazine, Trump repeated his claim that Iran is eager to reach a deal, pointing to the scale of destruction as the reason.
"Why wouldn't they call? We just blew up their three big bridges last night," he said, adding that Iran was "getting decimated."
He also brushed off suggestions by Iranian officials that he is not negotiating with Tehran, calling it "sort of an easy negotiation."
A US-Israeli strike hit a key bridge on a major highway in northern Iran earlier Thursday, local media reported. According to the Fars News Agency, multiple sites were struck in the Azimieh area near the city of Karaj, including the B1 Bridge, described as the highest bridge in the Middle East. The outlet reported several injuries and the bridge, part of a major infrastructure project expected to be inaugurated soon, was damaged.
Reports indicate that the US military may have carried out a so-called “double tap” strike in Iran, meaning the same location was hit twice in succession.
According to accounts cited in media coverage, the second strike occurred roughly an hour after the first, at a time when emergency responders were already on the scene assisting the wounded, despite such personnel being considered protected civilians under international law.
The strike is the latest escalation in a campaign that began on Feb 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint air offensive on Iran, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US forces, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
