TEHRAN, April 3 (Bernama-MNA) -- A senior spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces has said that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to the United States (US) and Israel for a very long period, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.
Speaking in an interview with state TV late on Thursday, spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi emphasised that the Iranian authorities have decided to close the Strait of Hormuz to vessels associated with the US, Israel, and countries that have supported the aggression against Iran.
He noted that during the conflict, several tankers were attacked for passing through the strait without Tehran’s permission.
On March 25, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Iran had allowed passage through the Strait of Hormuz for friendly countries, including Russia, India, Iraq, China, and Pakistan.
