UN Demands Investigation Into Occupier Attacks In West Bank

ISTANBUL, April 10 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The United Nations (UN) on Thursday called for investigations into a surge of violence by occupiers in the West Bank, stressing that Israel must fulfil its obligations as the occupying power, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

“Since the beginning of 2026 more than 580 settler attacks have resulted in casualties or property damage in over 190 Palestinian communities,” spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters.

He emphasised that attacks against civilians require thorough inquiry and "perpetrators of violence must be held to account according to international humanitarian law."

The call for protection coincides with rising regional tensions and aggressive incidents targeting UN personnel.

Dujarric said an Israeli Merkava tank blocked a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) logistics convoy Wednesday, directing its main gun toward peacekeepers and firing machine gun bursts that damaged a vehicle.

A projectile that killed a UN peacekeeper in Lebanon last month was fired by an Israeli military tank, UNIFIL said Tuesday.

The humanitarian crisis also extends to other conflict zones. In Sudan, a drone strike on a wedding in North Darfur killed at least 30 civilians, including women and children.

"We condemn this, and all attacks against civilians. Attacks using drones against civilians and civilian objects are unacceptable," said Dujarric.

Meanwhile, more than 1 million Sudanese refugees in Chad face "life-threatening cuts" in essential services due to a funding shortfall, allowing assistance for only four out of 10 refugees, he said.

In Yemen, the crisis is deepening with needs rising and flooding worsening, according to Dujarric.

He said more than 22 million people, including over 10 million women and girls, need humanitarian assistance.
