OIC Condemns Somaliland’s Reported Plan To Open ‘Embassy’ In Al-Quds

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed concern and strong condemnation for the reported intention of the so-called “Somaliland” to open a so-called “embassy” in occupied Al-Quds, describing the move as a flagrant violation of the United Nations (UN) Charter and relevant UN resolutions.

In a statement, the organisation said the move forms part of what it described as Israel’s desperate and illegitimate attempts to secure false recognition from unrecognised entities, including the so-called “Somaliland” region, in a bid to consolidate its purported sovereignty over occupied Al-Quds.

The OIC stressed that such actions constitute a clear violation of international law.

It reaffirmed that Israel, as the occupying power, holds no sovereignty over East Al-Quds, which it said remains the capital of the State of Palestine.

The secretariat also stressed that any measures aimed at altering the political, demographic, or geographical status of the city are null and void under international law.

The OIC reiterated its full solidarity with Somalia and voiced unwavering support for the country’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and regional security.

It also called on all countries to condemn and oppose the move, reject any attempt to grant international legal status to an unrecognised separatist entity, and compel Israel to comply with international resolutions.
