KOTA KINABALU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The President of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), Datuk Ewon Benedick, wants the cooperation between the Federal and state Governments, as well as the implementing agencies, to be improved to ensure all development projects under Budget 2026 run smoothly.

He said that based on previous experience, large-scale projects take several years, and some projects are delayed due to factors such as land acquisition.

Therefore, he wants closer cooperation between the Federal and state Governments, as well as the implementing agencies and technical departments, so that all planned development projects under Budget 2026 can be carried out in the current year.

He expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for channelling a development allocation of RM6.9 billion to Sabah, and he believes that this allocation does not include small and medium-scale projects that will be implemented by various ministries, including the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).

The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives said he also appreciates the significant focus given by the Prime Minister to the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and the RM50 billion loan financing guarantee for MSMEs is a large amount.

He said this after officiating the Halal Franchise Conference 2025 organised by Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas) and KUSKOP.

"My ministry also received an additional allocation exceeding RM1 billion next year under the budget provided. I believe there will be more initiatives channelled to the ministry, making the allocation that we will implement even larger next year," he said.

Therefore, he invited the people of Sabah and Sarawak to continue to be involved in the entrepreneurship and cooperative sectors so that the ministry can channel more of the necessary financing to boost economic activities in East Malaysia.
