Police Probing Case Of Upside-Down Flag On MPV In Pekan Nanas

PONTIAN, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- Police are investigating a case involving the Malaysian flag (Jalur Gemilang) being installed upside-down on a vehicle in Pekan Nanas here, which went viral on social media recently.

Pontian Police chief Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said police detected a Facebook post regarding the incident, which involved a Toyota Avanza MPV parked in front of a furniture shop along Jalan Besar, Pekan Nanas.

“The act caused various reactions among the community. However, the vehicle owner has fully cooperated throughout the initial investigation and immediate action was taken to correct the position of the flag," he said in a statement today.

According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

"Police also wish to remind all agencies, business premises and individuals to ensure that the display of the Jalur Gemilang is done in accordance with the procedures and protocols set as a sign of respect for the country's sovereignty," he said.
