KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia (NAWEM) and the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (BRICS WBA) today formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the BRICS WBA Regional Office in Malaysia.
In a statement, NAWEM said it will serve as BRICS WBA’s exclusive partner in Malaysia to strengthen cross-border cooperation among women entrepreneurs.
“The regional office will enhance market access, support knowledge exchange and expand business networks between Malaysia and BRICS countries,” it said.
NAWEM added that the partnership underscores shared commitments to advancing women’s economic participation through sustainable and meaningful collaboration.
The MoU exchange was witnessed by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, during the opening of WE2025: Future in Motion at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
The event was attended by more than 500 guests, including Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib and former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga.
The MoU was exchanged between NAWEM deputy president Saliza Abdullah, who also co-chairs the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN) Malaysia, and Anna Nesterova, chairperson of the Russian Chapter of BRICS WBA.
NAWEM, established in 1993, is Malaysia’s first multiracial women entrepreneurs association, while BRICS WBA was founded in 2020 during Russia’s BRICS chairship to promote women’s leadership and business cooperation among member economies.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the opening of WE2025, a three-day programme featuring a leadership conference, trade exposition, side events and business matching sessions from Nov 25 to 27.
