KUCHING, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- About 1,031 Sarawak police personnel will be deployed to Sabah on Friday to help ensure the smooth running of the 17th Sabah State Election, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday (Nov 29).

Sarawak Police Commissionier Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said about 200 of them are already in Sabah, while the rest will leave via commercial flights tomorrow.

He said this is vital to ensuring the election process runs smoothly, orderly and safely.

“We are committed to ensuring all preparations are in order and the team is also ready to help in terms of security control and public movement,” he said after the Sarawak Police Commissioner monthly gathering here today.

The Sabah state election is expected to involve various agencies to ensure that logistics, security and polling centre management operations can be carried out efficiently.

The state election this time will see 596 candidates vying for the 73 State Legislative Assembly seats.
