KUANTAN, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM) has allocated RM2.7 million for its Flood Aid Programme this year, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

He said that of the total amount, about RM500,000 has already been distributed to assist affected victims, with aid channelled in the form of essential goods and cash assistance.

“Today, YAPEIM, together with other agencies, is also providing assistance to flood victims in Kuantan, and it is hoped that this will help ease their burden,” he told reporters after the Ihsan MADANI Squad (Religious Affairs) Post-Disaster Relief Mission at Taman Guru here today.

Commenting on today’s programme, Zulkifli said that apart from YAPEIM, other agencies involved in providing assistance included the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), the Yayasan Dakwah Islam Malaysia (YADIM), and Yayasan Taqwa Wilayah Persekutuan.

He said today’s aid distribution benefited 300 recipients and comprised food supplies and essential items such as prayer kits, disposable diapers, hygiene kits, blankets, as well as batik sarongs and pelikat.

“The donation amounted to RM118,000, and the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP) assisted us in managing the contribution for flood victims in Kuantan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said the MADANI government has a strong ecosystem for disaster management, with various government agencies working together to assist affected victims.

He said programmes such as today’s initiative also enabled the government to engage directly with flood victims and better understand their needs.
