GEORGE TOWN, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB), Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge concession holder and operator, has received two prestigious recognitions from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for its implementation of Smart Artificial Intelligence (AI) Traffic Management Systems.
JKSB said the recognitions for Most AI Technology Implemented on an Expressway Bridge and First Expressway Bridge to Implement AI Technology for Highway Operations mark a significant milestone in the adoption of artificial intelligence within Malaysia’s expressway and bridge infrastructure sector.
“The Smart AI Traffic Management Systems, which were implemented in 2023 and fully completed by the end of 2024 were developed in collaboration with Dahua Technology Malaysia Sdn Bhd, with YCS Technology Solution (M) Sdn Bhd serving as the System Integrator (SI) and in close coordination with the JKSB operations team.
“The initiative has strengthened traffic monitoring capabilities, improved incident response efficiency and enhanced overall operational performance on the Second Penang Bridge,” the company said in a statement today, following the MBOR Award Ceremony for AI Innovation in Bayan Lepas today, which was witnessed by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and attended by Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) Managing Director Datuk Sazali Harun, JKSB Chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abdul Kassim, Dahua Technology Malaysia Managing Director Levi Wen and MBOR Chief Executive Officer Christopher Wong.
Meanwhile, Chow described the achievement as a reflection of JKSB’s commitment to progressive technology-driven infrastructure that supports both economic growth and public safety, while aligning with the Penang2030 vision.
“By embracing smart traffic management systems, we are strengthening road safety, improving mobility and reinforcing Penang’s position as a competitive, future-ready state in line with the Penang2030 vision,” he said.
He noted that the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge continues to play a critical role in supporting Penang’s economic ecosystem, particularly as Batu Kawan grows into a major industrial and logistics hub.
Abdul Malik said the recognition underscores JKSB’s responsibility as the custodian of a strategic national asset and its continued commitment to innovation and operational excellence.
As traffic volumes on the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge continue to rise, he said the implementation of intelligent traffic management systems supports smoother traffic flow, improved safety outcomes and a more balanced distribution of traffic between the island and the mainland.
“JKSB’s achievement as one of the pioneers of Smart AI Traffic Management Systems in Malaysia is not only a technological milestone, but also a meaningful contribution to Penang’s journey towards becoming a smarter, safer and more future-ready state, aligned with the Penang2030 vision,” he said.
