KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Maxis, in collaboration with Hopes Malaysia, has taken steps to uplift and empower the Kampung Sayap community in Kota Belud, Sabah, by combining festive community engagement with targeted support for sustainable, community-based income generation initiatives.

In a statement, Maxis said the Christmas celebration held at the Kampung Sayap open hall brought together more than 250 villagers, who also enjoyed various activities including a luncheon.

“Maxis also contributed sustainable agricultural materials and equipment to support Kampung Sayap’s agricultural sector, which is expected to benefit some 80 families, while strengthening food security and delivering long-term impact to the community,” the statement said.

In addition, Maxis conducted an ‘eKelas Usahawan’ workshop for 45 women and youths from the community to help enhance participants’ skills and guide them in marketing products more effectively in the digital marketplace.

The telecommunications company also distributed Hotlink SIM packs to help villagers stay connected.

Maxis chief corporate affairs officer Azizul Abdul Rahman said the contributions were expected to support the community’s sustainable agriculture efforts and equip local entrepreneurs with the digital skills needed to thrive in the future.

Hopes Malaysia representative Ezra Sadok expressed appreciation to Maxis for the contributions extended to the community and hoped for continued collaboration with the telecommunications company to further empower local communities.

Hopes Malaysia is a Sabah-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) that focuses on breaking the cycle of rural poverty in Kota Belud through long-term sustainable solutions.
