KOTA BHARU, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has disbursed extra takaful benefits totalling RM14,404.71 to the families of two students sponsored under the Convertible Education Financing (PPBU) programme who died in separate road crashes.

YBR Board of Trustees member Md Asyraf Zulfadly Md Zainudin said the disbursement demonstrated the foundation’s commitment to the welfare of sponsored students and their families during challenging times.

“YBR expresses its sympathy and condolences to the families of the sponsored students for their loss. It is hoped that these extra benefits and takaful returns will help ease their burden and support the livelihoods of the surviving family members,” he said in a statement today.

Md Asyraf Zulfadly said that RM4,945.20 was handed over to the family of Rayhan Mohammad Naim Zikry Mawardi, 23, a final-year Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) student at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, who died on Sept 15 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He said all students under the PPBU sponsorship scheme were covered by a takaful protection plan, providing financial support in the event of death or permanent disability from personal accidents.

YBR, he added, disbursed RM9,459.51 to the family of Siti Ain Balqis Hamdan, 23, a former sponsored student for Diploma in Policing and Investigation at Kolej UNIKOP, who was pursuing degree-level studies.

She died from serious head injuries on July 3 after losing control of her motorcycle while travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan.
