KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- A total of 325 traders at two Ramadan bazaar locations in the Lembah Pantai area will benefit from Point of Sales (e-POS) facilities and reduced stall rental fees to ease their burden during the fasting month.
Lembah Pantai MP Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative involves the provision of canopies, aprons and e-POS units in collaboration with Touch ’n Go at the Pantai ‘Bazar Ria’ and Taman Seri Sentosa Ramadan Bazaar.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said the contribution aims to help local traders reduce operating costs and better prepare for the Ramadan business season.
“Although the Federal Territories Minister has announced a ceiling of RM400 for stall rental, I will assist by contributing and refunding RM100 to each trader. As a result, traders at both bazaars will only need to pay RM300,” he said.
He told reporters this after the Touch ’n Go Tent Handover Ceremony to the Pantai Dalam Bazaar Hawkers Association here today.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said discussions are underway with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to assist other Ramadan bazaars in the capital that are not managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall, including through the implementation of the Safe Internet campaign.
He also announced a RM30,000 contribution to traders’ associations in the Lembah Pantai area in appreciation of their role in managing traders’ welfare and addressing issues faced by them.
Fahmi said that over the past two to three years, Ramadan bazaar management has faced various challenges, including issues related to stall allocation, coordination and enforcement by authorities.
“I have asked the associations, which are very familiar with the traders here, to give opportunities to local traders.
“The current issue is accommodating a large number of traders, but we are trying our best to ensure more people can benefit,” he said.
