KUCHING, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Racing with a bandaged right hand after a morning warm-up injury didn't stop Negeri Sembilan's BMX rider, Nur Adriana Sofea Abdul Hakim, from clinching the gold at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

What made the victory even sweeter was that the 18-year-old, who dominated the women’s BMX race at Bukit Siol today, overcame past disappointments after finishing last in the previous two editions.

Speaking to Bernama today, Nur Adriana couldn't hold back her tears of joy as she crossed the finish line with a time of 42.485 seconds.

When met by Bernama today, Nur Adriana could not hold back her tears of joy as she reached the finish line with the timing 42.485 seconds (s)

“In the 2018 and 2022 editions, I finished eighth because I crashed in the final at corner 1. During the warm-up today, I fell at straight 1 and needed treatment, which left my hand bandaged.

“But I pushed through the pain in the final because all I could think about was winning gold in this event, and Alhamdulillah, I did it,” she said.

The silver in the women’s BMX race went to Sarawak’s Aimy Nazurah Rais, clocking in at 43.994 seconds, while Sabah’s Farisha Nur Umairah secured the bronze with a time of 44.761 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Terengganu dominated, bagging both the gold and bronze in today’s final.

National champion Amer Akbar Anuar lived up to expectations, taking gold with a time of 35.556 seconds, while Wan Muhammad Izzat Wan Mohd Baihaki claimed bronze at 36.477 seconds.

Kedah’s Darwish Putra Muhd Sanusi took silver with a time of 36.422 seconds.

“I’m thrilled to win gold today, especially after taking silver in the previous edition. This victory is a perfect end to my SUKMA journey,” Amer Akbar said.
