KUCHING, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Fan Yew Tsen made sure the Sarawak bowling team brought the curtain down on the competition in style by delivering the squad’s fifth gold medal in the men’s Masters event at Megalanes Sarawak today.

The 21-year-old victory ensured that the Sarawak state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ was played for a fifth time after his teammates had earlier delivered gold medals in women’s singles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and women’s trios.

His win also helped the hosts end the bowling competition in top spot, followed by Selangor, Penang, Johor, Perak, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan, who rolled down a gold medal each.

In the title showdown earlier today, Yew  Tsen defeated Penang’s Mohammad Zulhair Zailani 2-1 (208-200, 202-212, 215-192).

Terengganu’s Wan Muhammad Zarif Ikram Wan Mazlan defeated Johor’s Aliff Haiqal Sahrul 2-0 (200-182, 219-187) to take bronze.

The women’s Masters title went to Johor’s Anis Hannani Romzi, who defeated Kedah’s Nur Anis Anisya Muhamad Zaffli 2-0 (254-197, 215-165).

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s four-gold sensation Nur Hazirah Ramli could not add a fifth to her collection when she lost 164-204, 150-219 to Selangor’s Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee.
