KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Local football giants, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), has an easy path in their Malaysia Cup defence after they were drawn to meet semi-pro A1 League team Kuala Lumpur Rovers in the round-of-16 of the 2024/2025 edition.
The draw that was held today could also result in 2021 Malaysia Cup finalists JDT and Kuala Lumpur City FC meeting in the quarter finals, that is a repeat of their 2021 final match, that is if Kuala Lumpur City FC can beat five-time champions Kedah Darul Aman FC in their round-of-16 match.
In other matches, 33 time champions Selangor FC will start off meeting four-time champions Sri Pahang FC while eight-time champions Perak FC will take on Kelantan Darul Naim FC.
Terengganu FC will also have an easy path to the quarterfinals as they take on another semi-pro A1 League team, Melaka FC, three-time champions Negeri Sembilan FC face off with PDRM FC, Penang FC will play Kuching FC and three-time champions Sabah FC will play the last semi-pro A1 League team, PT Athletic FC.
The two-leg round-of-16 match will begin on Nov 20, with both the quarterfinals and semifinals will be two-leg matches while the venue for the final will be decided by the Malaysia Football League (MFL) at a future date.
Teams that fail to make it to the quarterfinals will play in the MFL Challenge Cup 2024/2025.
