KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- A store manager lost RM81,050 after being scammed by a non-existent investment scheme on WhatsApp.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Azli Mohd Noor said on April 27, the victim, a 46-year-old man, was offered a stock investment scheme by an unknown woman.
He said the suspect, known as Lily, had persuaded the victim and promised a profit return of up to 400 per cent.
He said the victim, who was deceived by the offer, made eight transactions totaling RM81,050 between May 1 and 22.
"The victim who tried to get a return on investment was blocked from the WhatsApp group created to communicate and monitor investments.
"The victim who then realised he had been scammed, lodged a report yesterday morning and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement today.
