GEORGE TOWN, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Kebun Bunga assemblyman Lee Boon Heng has called on the Penang government to upgrade its tourism infrastructure and facilities to international standards to cope with the influx of tourists from India and China.
Lee said this is expected following the visa waiver from Dec 1.
"I want to know what the state government will do, apart from the facilities at the Penang International Airport, to welcome tourists from the two major Asian countries,” he said during the debate on the Supply Bill and Development Budget Proposal 2024 at the Penang State Assembly sitting here today.
He also suggested providing interpreters or translators at the airport and putting up multi-lingual signs as well as explanations of tourist areas at strategic locations for tourists.
Recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 30-day visa-free entry into Malaysia for visitors from China and India from Dec 1 in the spirit of strategic partnership.
The sitting continues tomorrow.
