UTM COMMITTED TO NURTURING TALENT CAPABLE OF FULFILLING NATIONAL DIGITALISATION, DEVELOPMENT NEEDS

JOHOR BAHRU, June 25 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) today reiterated its commitment to nurturing talent capable of fulfilling the needs of national development in the current digitalisation era.

The university said that as an institution of higher learning responsible for developing intellectual and high-performance talent, UTM has used various strategies and initiatives that are now starting to show results.

UTM, its staff and students have achieved various significant successes in the first six months of this year, including launching the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Faculty in Malaysia and realising the Malaysian Artificial Intelligence Consortium (MAIC) on May 10 at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

“The mandate given by the country to lead talent development in the AI field has reflected UTM’s ability to fulfil the need towards this aspiration,” the university said in a statement today.

The statement quoted UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail as saying that the university recorded a 100 per cent rate for graduate marketability for 2023 and dominated the premium salary and high skills categories among public universities in Malaysia.

“The university’s excellence can be seen through its rise in global rankings, including reaching 85th place on THE Asia University Rankings 2024 and 81st place on the QS World University Rankings 2025,” Ahmad Fauzi said, adding that the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 also ranked UTM courses as being among the top 100 in the world.

“This achievement reflects the strong ecosystem in UTM in implementing its core activities - teaching, research and community service.

“UTM has proven capable in nurturing high-performance graduates, in line with the needs of national development, especially in facing rapid technological change,” he said.

The university also shared several achievements, including the launch and accreditation of several programmes a get-together session with the vice-chancellor at the university today.

The programmes launched included the launch of the APEL.A T7 (Research) and APEL.A T8 (Doctorate) assessment programmes and the APEL.Q (Academic Qualifications) programme at the UTM APEL Centre, the launch of the Research Support Platform by the UTM library and the Disaster Rehabilitation Centre (DRC) in UTMDigital, UTM Kuala Lumpur.

Also, the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) presented the UTM-MTDC Signature Programme Endowment Grant Fund to two companies owned by UTM students, UTM, Uninet Technology (RM20,000) and InspireTech Solutions (RM15,000), at today’s event.

The companies were given the grants in appreciation of the students’ initiative in setting up technology-based startups to explore new findings that could benefit the community, industry and the country.

UTM also stated its continued commitment to work towards implementing its next strategic planning to ensure that its objectives can be realised.
