Govt Project Bidders Must Have Tax Compliance Cert - IRB

07/10/2025 05:57 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Companies or entrepreneurs seeking to participate in government tenders or projects must possess a Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC), which serves as proof of a taxpayer’s compliance status, said the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

IRB’s Revenue Collection Department principal assistant director, Azaharuddin Mohd Ali, said that taxpayers or bidders involved in the implementation of the TCC include various entities, such as companies, cooperatives, trust bodies, organisations, limited liability partnerships, and individuals conducting business.

“This means that to participate in government tenders or projects, entities under all these categories must first obtain a TCC. With this requirement, only those who comply with tax laws are permitted to conduct business with the government.

“The TCC serves as official proof that we have fulfilled our responsibilities and obligations as taxpayers. Therefore, for entrepreneurs or companies seeking to participate in government tenders, the TCC is essentially the ‘passport’ that opens the door to those opportunities,” he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama Radio’s Tax Clinic programme entitled “Nak Masuk Tender Kerajaan? Wajib ada TCC!” today.

Azaharuddin said the TCC status can be easily checked through the MyTax portal.

Regarding the eligibility requirement, he stated that taxpayers must ensure their Tax Return Form is submitted annually within the stipulated period and that they have no outstanding taxes or are adhering to an approved instalment payment schedule.

According to him, the TCC is valid for one year based on the current calendar year, and its authenticity can be verified by scanning the QR code via the MyTax mobile application.

He explained that the issuance of the TCC is also based on the Tax Identification Number (TIN), which every taxpayer is required to have.

“If you want to do business with the government through tenders, contracts, or supply deals, make sure you have a TCC. The process is simple: log in to the MyTax Portal and print it yourself.

“The TCC is not just a requirement but a proof of integrity and tax compliance. With it, the government can engage with greater confidence. Make the TCC your essential document, comply with tax laws for the nation to be prosperous, and share the benefits,” he said.

He also invited the public to join the National Taxation Seminar 2025, which will be held virtually on Oct 14, or attend in person at venues in Johor, Penang, Sarawak, and Sabah. The participation fee is RM350, inclusive of a certificate and CPD points. Registration can be made at spk.hasil.gov.my.
