SINDUMIN, Oct 15 Okt (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today launched the NADI on Wheels (NOW) programme in Sabah in conjunction with the Sindumin National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) Community Day celebration here.
According to a statement from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), NOW reflects the government’s commitment to expanding connectivity and empowering rural communities, ensuring they are not left behind in the nation’s progress, which is also in line with NADI’s mission to bring advancement, knowledge, and connectivity to every corner of the country.
“NOW is a mobile unit designed to deliver technology facilities and community-based services directly to hard-to-reach rural areas. The vehicle is equipped with Starlink satellite internet offering speeds up to 250 Mbps, laptops, tablets, projectors, portable solar power, and free Wi-Fi.
“NOW also provides interactive spaces for training activities, community learning, and the NADI Smart Services programme.
Through this initiative, NOW can engage with orphanages, persons with disabilities, Orang Asli communities, and other remote groups, ensuring they also benefit from technological progress,” the statement read.
MCMC noted that efforts to improve internet access are evidenced by the international recognition of Pulau Banggi NADI, which won the “Capacity Building” category at the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva.
This accolade reinforces Malaysia’s position as a proactive nation in empowering communities through digital technology, it said.
The Sindumin NADI Community Day featured community entrepreneurship exhibitions, digital awareness programmes, and free health screenings.
“The event was held through strategic partnerships with PERKESO, MyFutureJobs, and Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM), which support career guidance and community well-being segments.
“This initiative is expected to be a catalyst for improving skills, knowledge, and socioeconomic status in rural communities, aligning with the government’s goal to ensure equal opportunities for all to enhance their quality of life through access to technology and information,” the statement concluded.
Also present were Ministry of Communications secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah, MCMC deputy managing director (Regulatory and Corporate) Datuk Zurkarnain Mohd Yasin, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, and Sipitang District Officer Karim A.M Zahari.
