PARIT BUNTAR, April 27 (Bernama) -- The Social Welfare Department (JKM) continues to strengthen its relationship with the local community by organising the Kerian District Mosque Townhall programme with JKM’s director-general today.
The townhall served as a two-way communication platform between JKM and the community, enabling the department to directly hear views, suggestions and issues faced by the community, particularly those related to social welfare and service delivery.
During the session, various social welfare services were discussed, including assistance for those in need, the well-being of senior citizens, the welfare of children and persons with disabilities (PwD), strengthening family institutions, as well as community-level social intervention approaches.
JKM director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said he emphasised the importance of registering PwDs among parents and guardians to ensure that children with special needs are able to benefit from the various assistance, facilities and support provided by the government through JKM.
“Every child with special needs deserves the opportunity to succeed, to be valued and protected, as the government has already made provisions for them.
“Our responsibility is to ensure they continue to be cared for, supported and given the attention they deserve with compassion and concern,” he said at the programme held at Masjid Daerah Kerian, here tonight.
Also present were senior JKM officers, community leaders and local residents.
Che Murad Sayang said members of the community are also encouraged to contribute through JKM volunteer programmes, which can act as a catalyst in fostering a caring and compassionate community.
“The spirit of volunteerism can drive the creation of a more caring, compassionate and mutually supportive society, particularly in assisting those in need,” he said.
He added that the townhall not only serves as a medium for information dissemination, but also plays a role in strengthening the strategic relationship between JKM and the local community, ensuring that welfare services can be delivered in a more responsive, effective and people-centric manner.
