GEORGE TOWN, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Penang State Government is confident and hopes that the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2026 celebration in the state can be successfully implemented, thus strengthening appreciation for the role and contribution of media practitioners.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government had held an engagement session with the Communications Ministry over the past two to three months to ensure that all preparations for the prestigious event run smoothly.
“The HAWANA 2026 Summit will be held at PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena this Saturday while the Media Dinner with Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib will be held tomorrow.
“The state government has also contributed to the success of this programme and we hope that this year’s HAWANA will be a big success,” he told reporters here today.
The HAWANA 2026 Summit, which will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on June 20, is expected to bring together about 1,000 media practitioners from home and abroad.
With the theme “Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility ” HAWANA 2026 is organised by the Ministry of Communications with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) as the implementing agency to appreciate the contributions, perseverance and professionalism of media practitioners in this country.
In conjunction with the celebration, the RIUH Pi HAWANA Carnival which is also held for three days at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena starting tomorrow is expected to attract about 30,000 visitors.
The RIUH Pi HAWANA Carnival brings together more than 24 local creative product brands and 20 food and beverage vendors, in addition to offering interactive workshops that give the public the opportunity to explore various creative activities.
Visitors were also treated to 16 free stage performances involving local artists including Exists, Bunkface, Masdo, Sakura Band, Budak Nakal Hujung Simpang and Chelsea Ng.
