Penang State Assembly to reconvene at DUN Building

GEORGE TOWN, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Penang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will reconvene at the DUN Building, Lebuh Light here for the first time after being closed for restoration work since 2019.

Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak is scheduled to officiate the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 14th Penang State Assembly on May 27 and the sitting will continue from May 30 to June 3.

“Media practitioners are invited to do coverage as pre-pandemic times. However, they are required to do the COVID-19 self-test before entering the building and always comply with the standard operating procedures during coverage,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Law also said that the number of oral and written questions as well as motions will be announced this Friday during the sitting.

The DUN Building which is located in Zone 1 of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site had been closed for renovation since 2019. The RM3.67 million project involved the upgrading of the roof, ceiling and interior decoration of the hall, as well as mechanical and electrical works.

The last time the state assembly was held physically was on Aug 30, 2021, which lasted for three days. However, physical attendance for media personnel was limited to representatives from Buletin Mutiara, the state government’s monthly bulletin and online site.
