JAKARTA, May 27 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur-based independent think tank, KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI), hosted the 3rd World Digital Economy and Technology Summit on Monday, centered on the theme "Accelerating Digital Transformation for a Sustainable Future."

The summit, held here, convened prominent leaders across various sectors, aiming to explore the vital link between digital transformation and sustainable development, with the goal of fostering inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economies.

Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Digital, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, emphasised the government's commitment to narrowing the digital gap between Malaysia and its neighbouring countries, emphasising the urgent need for rapid digitalisation and transformation.

Speaking to the media at the event, he stressed the importance of inclusivity in Malaysia's digital journey, particularly in bridging the gap between urban and rural communities, ensuring that all citizens are equipped for the digital era.

As a fledgling ministry, established just five months ago, he stated, "We progress with a new ecosystem."

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno highlighted the wealth of opportunities presented by the country's digital frontier for investors and businesses.

He pointed out that digital payments, cybersecurity, and fintech are key opportunity areas, with additional growth sectors including health tech, digital technology expansion, and sustainable innovations.

"The nation's focus on sustainability and circular economies offers fertile ground for businesses, with initiatives like electric vehicles leading the charge towards long-term growth," he said during the 'An In-depth Conversation' session.

The summit, attended by over 300 participants from Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, India, and Hong Kong, also featured a special presentation of the World Digital Awards, presented by Sandiaga Uno.

Indonesia's Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, received the World Outstanding Digital Icon Leadership Award for his remarkable contributions to digital innovation and sustainability.
