BANGKOK, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Newly appointed Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today expressed her resolve to work closely with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to advance Malaysia-Thailand bilateral relations.

In a post on X, Paetongtarn thanked the Malaysian Prime Minister for his congratulatory message on her appointment and highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations as close neighbours and partners.

"Our relations have enjoyed a very positive momentum, thanks to the close partnership between Your Excellency and my predecessor, Prime Minister @Thavisin (Srettha Thavisin).

"I look forward to working closely with you to further advance Thailand - Malaysia friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation for the peoples of our two countries," she wrote on her X account Monday.

Paetongtarn, 37, takes office as the country’s prime minister on Aug 18 after being endorsed by King Maha Vajiralongkorn. She was elected as the new premier to succeed Srettha Thavisin by Parliament on Friday.
