UKM Welcomes 6,718 New Students For 2024/2025 Academic Session

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) will see the admission of  6,718 new students gleaned from 86,364 applications for the 2024/2025 academic session involving all study programmes.

UKM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said the figure includes students from all mainstream categories as well as local and international students through the university's Centre for Shaping Advanced and Professional Education (UKMShape).

He said that out of the 6,718 new students who registered, 1,803 new students admitted to UKM for the session were from B40 families, which is over 40 percent of the total intake.

"A total of 303 students are from families with B10 income, which is (income) less than RM1,000 a month. These students receive various forms of assistance including admission fee assistance, zakat assistance and special college facilities for asnaf students for free throughout the semester," he said in a statement today.

He said the university also admitted eight new Orang Asli students and nine people with disabilities.

"We respect every student's condition by providing appropriate accommodation facilities and welfare assistance to provide them comfort," he said.

Mohd Ekhwan added that UKM also saw the admission of five pairs of twins, seven pairs of siblings, and 20 students from the University Central Unit (UPU) 's special channel for athletes.

He added that all new students will undergo an orientation programme, the Watan Appreciation Week (MAW), from today until Oct 2. Wednesday).

"With the theme of 'Ilmu, Mutu dan Budi', MAW will provide new students with solid exposure and information such as the Vice Chancellor's message, sessions with alumni, introductions to campus activities, and interaction with faculties, colleges and the university's Responsibility Centre.

"This year too, MAW features 'In Person with Doc Zam Tips' and 'Tricks for Freshies' and a 'Ramah Mesra' interaction programme with Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir via Doc Zam: 'Pesanan buat Warga Watan Baharu'", he said.

In addition, he said registration sessions this morning involved students from Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Penang, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

"Meanwhile, students from Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will register in the afternoon session at their respective colleges," he said.
