SUBANG, April 15 (Bernama) -- Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived here today for a three-day official visit to Malaysia.

The special aircraft carrying Albanese and his delegation landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base here at 5.15 pm before being received by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

Albanese later inspected a guard of honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (1 RRD), led by Capt Muhamad Thabrani Mohamad Sharudin.

Tomorrow, Albanese will be accorded an official welcome ceremony in Putrajaya, followed by a four-eyed meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a bilateral meeting involving senior ministers and officials from both countries.

Both leaders are expected to discuss the conflict in West Asia and cooperation in ensuring energy and supply chain security, while also focusing on maintaining the steady flow of essential supplies, including fuel, amid evolving global economic and geopolitical challenges.

Both leaders are also scheduled to witness the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas of mutual interest and to hold a joint press conference to announce the outcomes of the discussions and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening Malaysia-Australia relations.

Australia is a significant economic partner for Malaysia, ranking as Malaysia’s 12th largest trading partner in 2025, with total bilateral trade valued at RM78.63 billion (USD18.38 billion).

Malaysia and Australia elevated their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) in 2021, providing a framework to further expand cooperation across three key pillars: economic prosperity, society and technology, and defence and regional security.
