ISTANBUL, April 15 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said that its convoy carrying military and civilian peacekeepers and contractors from Beirut to its Naqoura headquarters was halted by the Israeli army on Tuesday afternoon, just kilometres from its destination, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
UN-marked vehicles were later permitted to continue, but local contractors were sent back to Beirut under security arrangements, despite prior coordination that included their presence, the UNIFIL said on Wednesday.
"This is not an isolated incident. Similar restrictions, through physical roadblocks or the reversal of prior clearances, have affected both peacekeepers and the essential personnel who support them.
"These actions raise concerns regarding the timely delivery of critical supplies, including food, fuel, and water, to UNIFIL positions, particularly along the Blue Line," it added.
While such challenges have been managed so far, continued movement restrictions risk undermining operations, including peacekeepers’ ability to report on violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, said the UN peacekeepers.
It reiterated its call on the Israeli army to respect agreed arrangements, ensure the security and safety of peacekeepers, and guarantee the freedom of movement for all its patrols and logistical convoys.
