AKM Crucial To Strengthen Spirit Of Nationhood Amid Global Crisis – Mustapha

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Bernama) -- The role of the Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) is becoming increasingly important in uniting the people and strengthening the spirit of nationhood amid the global supply crisis triggered by the West Asia conflict, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

He said Malaysia is not exempt from various challenges arising from the crisis, including actions by certain parties seeking to take advantage of the situation, which could risk undermining national stability.

“In the face of this global crisis, we do not want certain parties to exploit the situation in a way that creates division and instability.

“(This is where) AKM plays an important role in nation-building and in fostering the spirit of nationhood, especially when facing global crises like this, to bring all Malaysians together in understanding the government’s efforts to address the issue,” he told reporters after officially opening the AKM Federal Territories office under the Prime Minister’s Department here today.

He said the implementation of structured programmes by AKM can serve as a catalyst for strengthening national integration, while narrowing gaps in understanding and reinforcing unity among Malaysians. 

Earlier, in his speech, Mustapha said AKM’s initiative through the “Gelombang Aku Kasih Malaysia”, launched on April 3, is in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration of strengthening human values, harmony and national unity.

He said that under the Malaysia MADANI framework, national development is not viewed solely from an economic perspective but also places emphasis on these aspects.

“I support the Gelombang Aku Kasih Malaysia initiative, which is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of National Unity and Perbadanan Putrajaya.

“This initiative will also involve ministries, departments and state government agencies to further invigorate the movement. It is a commendable collective effort that should be expanded across all ministries,” he said.

AKM, an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department, is responsible for implementing and coordinating nationhood and leadership training nationwide, while enhancing efforts to instil patriotism, discipline and integrity among the people through a more structured, systematic and focused training approach.
