KAJANG, May 20 (Bernama) -- Seventy senior citizens at Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah here can now breathe a sigh of relief after Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) resolved the centre's water supply disruption and low water pressure issues.
The company, wholly owned by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated), allocated RM30,000 under its Ziarah Kasih Lestari corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to install a new water tank and upgrade the centre's water supply system for the comfort and well-being of its residents.
PAAB Corporate Services Division general manager Rozaifee Abu Zaharim said the existing water tank was unable to meet the centre's daily needs due to high water consumption by its 70 residents, including for food preparation, laundry and cleaning.
"As such, PAAB agreed to install a new 600-gallon polyethylene water tank, along with new piping and a water pump, as well as replace existing taps with water-saving devices to improve water-use efficiency," he said at a press conference after the CSR programme here today.
Also present was Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah chairman Nurul Atikah Mohd Azmi.
PAAB said it hoped the initiative would permanently resolve the water supply issue and ensure the comfort and well-being of the elderly residents.
Earlier, Rozaifee presented essential items and clothing contributed by PAAB employees to the centre's residents in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
The programme, held in collaboration with non-governmental organisation Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) Selangor and volunteers from Multimedia University, included a sharing session by guest speaker Ustaz Nazri Abbas and a special appearance by singer Datuk Nash.
PAAB was established in 2006 under the Water Services Industry Act 2006 to support the federal government's National Water Services Industry Restructuring Plan by providing competitive and sustainable financing to water operators.
