JPN Replaces Documents For Kampung Gok Kapur Fire Victims

KOTA BHARU, June 9 (Bernama) -- The National Registration Department (JPN) Kelantan has deployed its Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (MEKAR) team to help victims of yesterday's Kampung Gok Kapur fire replace identification documents destroyed in the blaze.

Its director, Halimatusaadiah Ramli @ Mohd Shah, said a mobile registration van had been stationed at the site to facilitate the replacement of essential documents, including identity cards, birth certificates and death certificates.

"As of 4 pm today, we have processed 15 applications for replacement birth certificates, two for death certificates and two identity card replacement applications. Each application takes between five and 10 minutes to complete on-site," she told reporters at the location today.

Halimatusaadiah said the initiative was aimed at helping affected residents quickly obtain replacement documents for their daily and official affairs.

She added that more victims were expected to come forward for the service as many were still assessing losses and identifying documents destroyed in the fire.

The MEKAR team will remain at the site until 5 pm to ensure all victims requiring assistance are attended to, she said.

Meanwhile, fire victim Eamie Zarini Nasir, 43, said neither she nor her younger brother, Muhammad Zaihan Hafiz, 27, managed to save any important documents when their home was destroyed in the blaze.

The clinic assistant said she was at work when the fire broke out, while her brother, who was at home, was unable to retrieve any documents as the flames spread rapidly.

"In the panic, nothing could be saved, including our important documents. We are grateful that JPN came to the site and provided free document replacement services. It has made things much easier for fire victims," she said.

A total of 27 houses were destroyed in the fire at Kampung Gok Kapur yesterday, with the cause still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team.
