GEORGE TOWN, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Penang Education Department is in the process of collecting 5,000 to 6,000 Teachers’ Day-themed poems in order to be listed in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for the most number of poems.
Its Mass Movement Launch coordinator, b said all the poems will be penned by over 100 students staying at hostels in the state.
"The hostel students, who will begin writing the poems today, will take a month to complete the task, and will coincide with the state-level Teacher's Day celebrations on June 16.
"Some poems will be read out during the celebrations and they will be compiled and listed in the MBR for the most Teacher’s Day-related poems produced,” he told reporters at the state-level 2022 ‘Thank you Teachers’ Mass Movement Launching Ceremony 2022 here today.
The ceremony was officiated by MARA Education Foundation (YPM) chairman Datuk Mohd Razman Yaacob and witnessed by state education department director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad.
Meanwhile, Mohd Razman said YPM had allocated a total of RM199,700 for assistance and school programmes for 3,445 students in Penang for this year.
These would include smart tuitions, digital entrepreneurship, university enrolment, YPM schooling assistance fees and the adoption scheme.
"As of May this year, beneficiaries of YPM's assistance and schooling programmes totalled 355 people in Penang with a total allocation of RM31,800 involving motivation and study skills programmes as well as adoption schemes for those affected by COVID-19.
"YPM also plans to implement various other programmes to benefit students, including answering techniques for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination questions that will be implemented in the near future," he added.
Since YPM’s establishment, the foundation has been committed to furthering assistance and access to education to further strengthen the standard of education and the socio-economy, especially among the children of B40 asnaf (Muslim tithe recipients).
