PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is leaving it to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to investigate the death of a Universiti Malaya (UM) student who fell from a residential college building recently, said Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

The Higher Education Minister said the case was still under police investigation and was beyond MOHE’s authority.

“We will leave it to the police to carry out the investigation,” he told reporters after officiating the Persidangan Antarabangsa Karya Agung Melayu (PAKAM) 2025 here today.

A 22-year-old UM student died after a fall from a residential college building at around 3.15 pm on Oct 17.

In an earlier statement, UM said the student involved in the incident died while receiving treatment at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM).

The university said the cause of the incident was still under investigation by the authorities, adding that it was providing full cooperation to assist in the probe.
